Tulsa Kart Club Members:
Subject: Formula -4 Class
The TKC F-4 class was established as an economical class with a spec. engine package intended to attract new karters to our club. The concept is an inexpensive, very low maint. kart that people can have fun racing without the need to “blueprint” engines, regularly upgrade clutches, etc. and perform lots of maint. between and during racing events. The engine package is a 196cc 4 cycle OHV based on the Honda GX 200 design, available from a variety of sources, and all using a spec. clutch, pipe and muffler.
Recently some sources of these engines have produced engines with out of spec. carbs., cyl. heads flywheels, etc. and some engines are mislabeled. (6.5 HP labeled as 5.5 HP and 5.5 HP labeled as 6.5 HP etc.) This probably makes little difference when used on an air compressor, garden tiller, etc. but, would destroy the concept of the spec. engine package for our F-4 class if allowed to compete.
Effective immediately, the only engine approved for the F-4 class is the RPM F-4. These engines are all manufactured to the proper specs. and have been inspected and have all allowable modifications performed. Other engines that have previously been inspected and approved will be allowed to compete for the balance of 2008. ANY OTHER ENGINES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY TULSA KART CLUB RACE OR PRACTICE DAYS!
I continue to believe the F-4 class will grow and be a major contributor to the survival and success of TKC if the class is maintained as intended. Tell anyone you know that may be interested in getting started in racing in our club about the F-4. They can be assured all engines will meet the specifications allowed for the class.
